Nikon Coolpix P310 Samples

The crops below show the quality of the Nikon Coolpix P310 next to the same ISO for the Fujifilm Finepix F770 EXR
Fujifilm Finepix F770 EXR. These cameras have a large sensitivity range, reaching up to ISO 3200 at full-resolution. The P310 also does ISO 6400 at 16 MP while the F770 EXR drops to 8 MP at that ISO. They are both advanced fixed-lens cameras with full manual controls except the Fuji lacks Manual Focus.

All images below are 100% crops from their respective camera taken at the highest image quality JPEG setting available. ISO, aperture and white-balance were set on camera. Other settings were left at their default values. These crops help determine which ISO settings is acceptable on these cameras. As noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction which introduces softness. The point at which a print become unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.

These crops show that both these cameras produce very similar image quality with a slight lead to the P310 in terms of image noise. The ace of the Nikon which is not shown here is its ultra-bright lens which gives it about 2 stop advantage over the Fuji. This means that when ISO 800 is neded by the F770 EXR, the P310 can shoot comfortably at ISO 200 and deliver superior image quality under the exact same conditions.
