HP Photosmart R967 Assessment

The HP Photosmart R967 is simplicity itself. It is self-descriptive with a built-in system and numerous helpful features. Its image quality is good, except for above average noise at all ISO sensitivities. Since it is equipped with a 10 megapixels sensor, the noise issue will mostly affect large prints. White-balance is simply exceptional. Color, exposure and focus are also right-on.

Even though, the R967 is a rare ultra-compact with full manual control, we recommend it more for beginners because its easy-to-understand user interface is rather inefficient. Travellers may also beware of this camera because of its clunky charging system and short battery life.

Competing ultra-comact cameras include the Casio Exilim EX-Z850 which also has full-manual controls and the Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 which does not. Neither of these cameras is clearly superior to the HP Photosmart R967 but their different interfaces and feature sets are worth a look.
