Tokina Adds 3 New Lenses

Tokina, third-party maker of high-quality lenses, announced 3 new lenses today. One in the ATX-I series of high-grade optics for Full-Frame and two ATX-M lenses for Fujifilm X-mount APS-C mirrorless digital cameras.

First up is the Tokina ATX-I 17-35mm F/4 FF. This constant-aperture ultra-wide zoom features all-internal focusing and zoom mechanism in a lightweight weatherproof body. It uses a manual focus-clutch to switch between AF and MF modes but sliding the focusing ring down. An ultra-sonic SDM motor allows this lens to focus quickly and quietly with Phase-Detect AF system used by DSLRs. The new Tokina ATX-I 17-35mm F/4 FF will be available shortly for Canon EF and Nikon F Full-Frame DSLRs.

Next are a pair of ultra-bright prime lenses with dedicated aperture-rings: Tokina ATX-M 23mm F/1.4 X and Tokina ATX-M 33mm F/1.4 X. Both these X-mount lenses feature an extra-wide focus-ring and aperture-ring marked in 1/3-stops from F/1.4 to F/16. Designed for mirrorless cameras, these lenses use a STM stepping motor which can move fractional amounts precisely. The Tokina ATX-M 23mm F/1.4 X is expected to ship sometime next month.

These lightweight lenses offer an internal construction with clickless aperture-ring. Electronics in the lens allows them to be automatically supported by the 5-axis image-stabilization system inside the few stabilized Fujifilm APS-C mirrorless digital cameras.
