Sony Redesigns 85mm F/1.4 G-Master Prime Lens

Sony just released an optically redesigned version of one of their most popular professional portrait lenses for Full-Fame Mirrorless Digital Cameras. The new ultra-premium Sony FE 85mm F/1.4 G Master II is a medium prime lens with an ultra-bright aperture that is perfect to render a razor-thin depth-of-field for smooth bokeh.

The second generation model looks quite similar to its predecessor, the excellent FE 85mm F/1.4 GM, which is already 8 years old. However, the newer model features completely redesigned optics and focusing systems to ensure that it is 20% lighter and can focus continuously extremely quickly.

The Sony FE 85mm F/1.4 GM II is built to the highest standard. Its weatherproof body sports two customizable buttons, a dedicated aperture-ring and focus switch. The front accepts standard 77mm screw-on filters and takes a tubular lens hood. This lens captures a 29° angle-of-view which produces a flattering perspective. Aperture is adjustable between F/1.4 and F/16. With a minimum focus-distance of 80cm, this lens has a 0.12X magnification, which is typical for such bright lens.
