Sigma Launches Bright Extreme Wide-Angle APS-C Zoom Lens
News
2023.10.05
Sigma Photo just unveiled a bright lens, for cameras with an APS-C sensor, having the second widest angle-of-view among rectilinear zoom lenses. Their newly introduced lens manages to be very compact while keeping its maximum aperture quite wide.
The new Sigma C DN 10-18mm F/2.8 DC extends the Contemporary series with its widest lens yet. Lenses of the series are characterized by quality optics and design that balance compromises. For the 10-18mm F/2.8, this means a small form-factor without weatherproofing and a brighter aperture yet a slightly shorter foca-length than the legacy Sigma 10-20mm F/3.5 EX made for DSLRs.
The Sigma C DN 10-18mm F/2.8 DC captures an angle-of-view from 76 to 110°, only leaving the much larger Fujifilm XF8-16mm F/2.8R WR with a wider angle-of-view. Its bright F/2.8 maximum aperture is also a rare find among ultra-wide-zooms which is very welcome for APS-C cameras that require more light to approach the image quality of Full-Frame models. With a minimum focus-distance of 12cm at the wide-end, this lens achieves the highest magnification in its class: 0.25X.
External controls are minimal to keep this lens small. There are only two rings, one for focus, the other for zoom, and no other controls. Even though there is a bayonet mount at the front to attach a lens hood, the one provided by Sigma only needs to be pushed onto the lens for speed. There is also a standard 67mm filter-thread at the front. The rear mount comes in Sony E, Fujifilm X and Leica L versions. This makes it the widest zoom for APS-C cameras with Sony E and Leica L mounts.
At only 260g, this is by far the lightest such lens. For comparison, the Fujifilm XF8-16mm F/2.8R WR weighs over 3X more. The barrel of the lens is 6.4cm wide at the front and 7.2cm long, making it also the most compact. It will be available at the very end of this month for $600 USD. Preorders are already possible to ensure being among the first to get this exciting new lens:

- Fujifilm X-Mount: B&H Photo - Adorama
