Sigma Launches Redesigned Full-Frame Mirrorless Macro

Early this morning Sigma launched a completely redesigned macro lens for Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras to exceed the performance of their DSLR equivalent offering which is already known to be among the best performing macro lens on the market.

The new Sigma A 105mm F/2.8 DG DN Macro sports an optical system which is highly optimized for macro photography. Its typical F/2.8 maximum aperture allowed Sigma to render details with extremely uniform sharpness. The grouping of optics was built to minimize chromatic aberrations to make this macro lens usable even with a 2X extender. This allows it to push it magnification from 1X to 2X while still delivering exceptional output.

This macro lens is part of the Art series which indicates emphasis on image-quality above all else. The body of the lens is constructed with a highly rigid structure and fully weatherproof. There is a dedicated aperture-ring which is both declickable and lockable. Additionally, a switch can toggle the lens focusing-range from macro, telephoto or both.

According to Sigma, there was a surge of sales for their existing macro lenses as people shelter-in-place during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, they took the lead on creating an even better lens for Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Cameras that have experienced growth lately. They expect to ship the Sigma A 105mm F/2.8 DG DN Macro on October 23 in both Sony E and Leica L mounts.
