Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition

Today Ricoh announced a new Special Limited Edition of their GR IIIx fixed-lens premium digital camera. This model is based on the earlier Ricoh GR IIIx that is built around a 24 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor paired with a 26mm lens, resulting in the field-of-view of a 40mm in Full-Frame terms.

Pentax has a long tradition of producing cosmetic variants of their digital cameras and their new owners, Ricoh, are starting on the same path yet have gone a step further by providing some additional features in this limited edition camera. It has a textured metal body and a blue ring to make it stand out visually. We normally do not cover distinct colors of cameras yet the two added features make it a more distinct model:

• Snap Distance Priority: A preselected combination of focus-distance and aperture can be recalled.
• Auto AF Area: Automatically selects a focus-area near the center of the frame.

Otherwise, the new Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition acquires the entire feature-set of the standard edition. This is a fairly capable camera in an exceptionally compact body. Visually, there is now a graphics that shows up during power-off and a newly-created metal hot-shoe cover and a leather hand-strap with blue highlight.
