Revoring Combines Variable CPL with ND Filter

This morning H&Y unveiled the world's first Combined Variable Circular Polarizer and ND Filter. This new series of automounting Revoring filters use a spring-loaded iris to attach to lens filter threads of various diameters. Three sizes are available to accommodate the majority of lenses:

• Small: 46-62mm
• Medium: 58-77mm
• Large: 67-82mm

The new combination features dual concentric rings that control separately polarization and density. The density range is unclear but expect a minimum 1 EV and over 5 at most using the variable control. A matching set of ND filters that magnetically attach to the filter are available to add an ND4, ND8, ND16 or ND400 filtering. This gives 2, 3, 4 or 8½ EV of light transmission reduction additional to that provided by the Variable Polarizer.

The elegance of the solution is that one or two filters can cover virtually all lenses and provide versatility that is quite expense if purchased separately for each thread-size. As always, as a Variable CPL, there is chance of cross-polarization artifact at high-density. This is aggravated by wide-angle lens which should not get often used in combination with a polarizer of any kind.

H&Y is pricing their new Revoring filters very competitively. The magnetic Variable Circular Polarizing Filter is launched for $129 USD in Small size and $139 for either Medium or Large. The magnetic add-on filters some in at $109 or $119 USD, depending on the size. Each density is sold separately.
