Nikon Launches Ultra-Bright 35mm F/1.2 Prime Lens

This morning Nikon unveiled a new S-series prime lens for their Z mirrorless platform. It extends the lineup of premium optics designed for Full-Frame and taking advantage of the wide diameter of the Z-mount.

The new Nikkor Z 35mm F/1.2S is a premium ultra-bright lens with a standard focal-length commonly used for lifestyle, group portraits and documentary photography. Combined with a maximum F/1.2 aperture, it can capture a razor-thin depth-of-field to isolate subjects from their backgrounds. Its focal-length is high popular and provides a 63° angle-of-view.

This prime lens has a minimum focus distance of 30cm which gives it a 0.2X maximum magnification. Its front is threaded to accept standard 82mm filters. The body of the lens comes with two customizable buttons and a clickless control-ring. A large manual focus-ring dominates the center of the barrel. This is a fly-by-wire control that can be customized. As one expects from such high-end optics, the lens is fully weatherproof.

The new Nikkor Z 35mm F/1.2S expected to ship later this month for $2800 USD or $3800 CAD. Preorders are already accepted from Adorama and B&H Photo.
