Nikon Launches D7100

The hotly anticipated successor of the D7000 was just launched. The new Nikon D7100 boasts a 24 megapixels APS-C sensor with no anti-alias filter. This high-resolution CMOS sensor has an ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 6400, expandable to 25600. Its fast read-out lets the D7100 shoot continuously at 6 FPS and capture full 1080p HD video at 30 FPS.

The D7100 follows the design of its predecessor very closely while refining several components, include a ultra-fast 51-point Phase-Detect autofocus sensor and 2016-pixel Matrix metering sensor. The rear LCD has been enlarged to 3.2" with a class-leading 1.2 megapixels of resolution. The viewfinder remains at 100% coverage and 0.94X magnification but has been upgraded to use an OLED panel for overlay, rather than the D7000's LCD.

The body is made very durable and is highly weather-sealed. Nikon specifies its weather-resistance matches that of the D300S. This suggests that this model may fuse both lines together as little room is left between a D7100 and a full-frame D600 for an intermediate offering.

The Nikon D7100 is expected to arrive next month for $1199 USD or $1229 CDN. It is already available for preorder from B&H Photo which ships internationally.
