Nikon CES 2015 Lineup

For the start of CES 2015, Nikon revealed 3 new imaging products. The first two are upgrades to existing products with a new entry-level DSLR and light telephoto zoom.

The Nikon D5500 replaces the D5300 with an almost identical feature-set in a refined design which includes a lifted control-dial and adds touchscreen capabilities to the rear 1 megapixels 3.2" rotating LCD. Like its predecessor, this one combines a 24 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor without anti-alias filter and a class-leading 39-point Phase-Detect AF sensor.

The single-control-dial and cropped 95% coverage OVF keep the entry-level status of the D5500. It still offers a reasonable number of controls, including drive-mode button, traditional mode-dial and customizable Fn button. This new DSLR should be available next month. B&H Photo are already accepting pre-orders for $897 USD.

The new collapsible Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED VR II telephoto lens offers a compact design with a classic telephoto reach. This lens is somewhat dim, as one would expect from a kit-lens but offers unprecedented portability for a DSLR zoom, only 8.3cm long when closed. This lens will also be available next month for $347 which you can pre-order from B&H Photo as well.

The new lens is a bright and moderately lightweight Nikkor AF-S 300mm F/4E PF ED VR. This is the first Nikon lens to use diffractive optics. It manages to squeeze in a bright 300mm lens into 755g. It has en electronically-controlled variable diaphragm and built-in stabilization. This new telephoto prime will be available next month from B&H Photo for just under $2000 USD.
