Mitakon Announces Trio of T/1 Cine Lenses
News
2023.08.08
A few weeks back Mitakon introduces 3 new Speed Master Prime lenses designed for Cinema applications with Super 35 sensors, which are equivalent to APS-C sensors with a 1.5X crop only at a 16:9 aspect-ratio. This trio of new lenses becomes the first set with T/1 aperture that provides similar transmission than F/0.95 photo lenses.
As is the trend for cinematic lenses launched together, ZY Optics designed them to be externally identical. This makes it easy to sway between lens is the gears used to focus and adjust aperture remain in the same position. All these lenses have the same 88 diameter and 93mm length with a geared aperture-ring towards the mount and a geared focus-ring near the middle of the lens barrel which includes a built-in hood. Each lens differs in weight though.
The new lenses in this trio are all Mitakon Speedmaster models offering a maximum T/1 aperture which makes them exceptionally bright. The iris of these lenses is made of 9 blades and can stop down to T/16. The difference between this lens is mostly their focal-lengths: 20mm, 35mm and 50mm. Natually the angle-of-view varies along to give 72°, 43° and 33°. respectively. Each lens also starts focusing at a different distance, 31cm, 36cm and 62cm. Regardless of the range the focus-through is 270° betweem the minimum distance and infinity. Aperture through always matches complete since it is 60° from T/1 to T/16.
To achieve their differing focal-lengths, each lens employs a different optical constructions which contributes to its weight. The Mitakon SpeedMaster 20mm T/1 weighs 730g. The Mitakon SpeedMaster 35mm T/1 is the lighest at 640g and the heaviest if the Mitakon SpeedMaster 50mm T/1 which comes in at 820g. ZY Optics is building all three lenses for Sony E, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X and Canon RF mounts. Lens can be bought individually or as a case with all three for $1300 USD.
