First Fuji Weather-Sealed Mirrorless Launched

Earlier this week, Fuji unveiled their new flaghship mirrorless camera and the first one to be weather-sealed or freezeproof. The Fuji X-T1 features the same 16 megapixels X-Trans CMOS II sensor with built-in Phase-Detect AF as the Fuji X-E2 reviewed here. and obviously, uses the Fuji X-mount with 1.5X crop-factor.

While the sensor is the same, the EXR II processor has been enhanced to deliver increased sharpness and low image-noise which let the X-T1 reach a rarely seen ISO 51200 for an APS-C sensor. As the X-E2, the X-T1 does not use an anti-alias filter to capture extra-fine details.

The X-T1 includes an extra-large 0.5" OLED EVF with 2.4 megapixels and a built-in Eye-Start sensor, plus a 3" tilting LCD with 1 megapixels. The mechanical design of this new mirrorless offers not only 2 control-dials but dedicated shutter-speed, ISO and EC dials as well. Most compatible Fujinon lenses include an aperture-ring as well, giving it an unprecedented number of direct dials.

The body of this digital camera is built over a magnesium chassis with 80 seals to keep dust and moisture out. These make the X-T1 also freezeproof to -10C. Two new weather-sealed lenses were pre-announced along the X-T1 which will allow the whole system to be weather-sealed when they become available some time later this year.

The Fuji X-T1 is expected to be available February 2014 for a suggested retail price of $1299 USD or CDN.
