DxO Mark Rates Leica Q2

DxO Mark just published their sensor analysis and scoring of the Leica Q2. This fixed-lens digital camera sports a 47 megapixels Full-Frame CMOS sensor paired with a bright F/1.7 wide-angle 28mm stabilized lens. This rather compact camera weighs just 734g, including the built-in lens, while having one of the highest resolution full-frame sensor on the market.

Leica has a relatively small premium market almost all to itself yet has been delivering improved capabilities such as Cinema 4K recording, 10 FPS capture and an ulta-sharp 0.5" EVF with 3.7 megapixels and 0.76X magnification. As any camera of this caliber is expected, the Q2 offers a complement of manual controls, bracketing and metering functions in a weatherproof body.

The overall score of the Leica Q2 published by DxOMark is 96, placing this in the top 10 cameras of any class. The key components of this score are 26.4 bits of color-depth, 13.5 EV of dynamic-range and a High-ISO score of 2491. The bit-depth is particularly impressive and one of the highest ever measured by DxOMark.

Dynamic-range on the other hand is what pulls the Q2 down with a score below that of even APS-C digital cameras, something which might be explained by the tiny pixel size needed to deliver 47 MP of resolution. An ISO score of 2491 is fairly good yet not exceptional. Luckily, the Q2 has a bright lens which allows it to shoot wider instead of raising ISO.
