CES 2016 - The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas started yesterday. As usual, this show is one of the biggest events of the year concerning digital cameras.

There are plenty of announcements yesterday, but before getting to them, I have to pull a Steve Harvey: Dear readers, I want to apologize. Yesterday was the first day of CES 2016 when most new cameras are announced and I had prepared announcements but in the morning I had an operation and when returning from the hospital, I arrived to a crashed server. None of our other sites crashed, just the box for Neocamera, so it was probably overloaded by people looking for CES news. Sorry. We will work hard to get more power and reliability by the time Photokina 2016 comes along in September, maybe even some redundancy and fail-over system to diminish downtime.

In summary, here are the new digital camera and lenses launched at CES 2016 so far:

Canon Powershot ELPH 180: The most basic and cheapest ultra-compact, offers a 20 megapixels CCD sensor and 8X optical zoom lens without stabilization, which is probably a first for a lens reaching beyond 200mm. Record 720p videos.

Canon Powershot ELPH 190 IS: Stabilized version of the ELPH 180 using the same 20 MP CCD which record 720p videoes.

Canon Powershot ELPH 360 HS: Ultra-compact with a 20 MP high-speed CMOS sensor, offers a longer but very dim stabilized 25-300mm F/3.6-7 optical zoom lens. Record full 1080p HD videos.

Canon Powershot SX420 IS: Entry-level ultra-zoom with a high-powered 42X optical zoom based around a 20 MP CCD. Record 720p videos. Offers Canon's incredible and unique 0cm macro mode which focuses right from the surface of the lens.

Canon Powershot SX540 HS: Mid-range ultra-zoom with a whopping 50X optical zoom lens and based on a 20 MP CMOS sensor. Shoots continuously at 5.9 FPS and record 1080p HD video at 60 FPS. Also can focus down to 0cm.

Nikon D5 CF and D5 XQD: The same camera available in dual CF or dual XQD slot configuration, the D5 is the new Nikon flagship DSLR with a 20 MP full-frame CMOS sensor which reaches the highest sensitivity of any digital camera in production, ISO 3286000 - Yes, ISO three milltion - and offers fast 12 FPS drive with a deep 200 RAW file buffer. It is the first Nikon DSLR to record 4K Ultra-HD.

Nikon D500: Certainly the most anticipated DSLR of the last 5 years, the new D500 is an APS-C (DX) camera with a fast 20 MP CMOS sensor which offers ultra-high sensitivity of ISO 16392000 - Yes, ISO one point six million! - exceeding every digital camera on the market save for the full-frame D5. Also shoots at 10 FPS can record 4K Ultra-HD video.

Olympus TG-870: Waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, crushproof and dustproof,the TG-870 is the latest Stylus Tough camera built for adventure. Features an extra-wide 21-105mm lens, plus built-in GPS and WiFi.

Olympus M.Zuiko 300mm F/4 IS PRO: The longest prime lens for Micro Four-Thirds is now the M.Zuiko 300mm F/4 IS PRO. This is the first such lens with stabilization which adds 2 axis of correction to stabilization built into Olympus mirrorless cameras, for a total of 6 stops of compensation. This high-grade lens is weather-sealed.

Panasonic ZS100 (Specs to come): Travel-zoom with a 1" CMOS sensor, offering a 24-2400mm lens and dual control-dials.

Panasonic ZS60 (Specs to come): Travel-zoom with a standard 1/2.3" CMOS sensor, replacing the ZS50 before it.

Panasonic Leica Vario-Elmar 100-400 F/4-6.3 ASPH Mega OIS: The longest named lens is also the longest Micro Four-Thirds lens to date. This high-end optics is fully weatherproof and offers built-in image stabilization.
