Canon Refreshes Two Classic Professional Lenses

Along with the introduction of their EOS 5D Mark IV earlier today, Canon announced two new version of some of their most classic full-frame lenses.

The Canon EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM replaces version II before it with a new optical design offering improved edge-to-edge sharpness and resistance to flare. Fluorine coatings on front and back elements was added to repel water and oil. Weather-resistance has also been greatly improved.

The Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS II USM replaces the workhorse lens of the EF system. With an ultra-wide to telephoto coverage on a full-frame camera, this lens is extremely versatile. The new version has a new optical formula to improve sharpness and protection from water and oil one front and rear elements. The biggest improvement is a new image stabilization system which is said to be effective to 4 stops, compared to 2½ on the original version. This lens also has an upgraded weatherproof construction.

Both lenses are schedule to be available in October. The suggested price for the EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM is $2200 USD. The EF 24-105mm F/4L IS 2 USM has its price set for $1100 USD.
