Canon Introduces Smallest DSLR

Canon launched their smallest DSLR, the EOS Rebel SL3. This 24 megapixels APS-C DSLR sports a sensor with Dual-Pixel AF which is unique to Canon and allows the camera to focus smoothly and continuously nearly anywhere on the sensor. This extraordinary autofocus system is used during 4K Ultra-HD video capture and when using Live-View. When used traditionally through the viewfinder, the SL3 falls back on a dedicated 9-Point AF sensor.

The new Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is aimed at beginners at photography that want the high-image quality of a DSLR with simple traditional ergonomics. This compact DSLR offers a deep grip, single control-dial, traditional mode-dial, a rotating LCD screen and 0.87X magnification OVF with 95% coverage OVF. Remaining specifications are typical of an entry-level DSLR: full manual controls, 1/4000-30s shutter-speed plus Bulb mode and 5 FPS continuous drive. Thanks to its SDXC UHS-I memory-card slot, the SL3 can continuously shoot an unlimited number of JPEG images but there is a buffer only for 10 RAW files.

This new DSLR comes with modern amenities of WiFi, Bluethooth and a touchscreen. As is only possible on a DSLR, the SL3 can capture 1070 shots-per-charge according to the CIPA standard which includes 50% flash use. Its body weighs 449g or about 1 lbs.

Canon USA excepts the EOS Rebel SL3 to ship this month for $600 USD.
