BioLite is working on a new home backup solution which is being funded via KickStarter. Already having shown to deliver capable power banks for electronics, this time, BioLite is scaling up with enough capacity to power home appliances in case of power outages. This is become more essential as the power grid has been handling more stress over the past several years due to growing population and harsher weather.

The new BioLite Backup solution is made of a 1.5KW Core component and 1.5KW extensions components that can chain together for a maximum of 9KW. Just one core plus one extension is able to deliver up to 60 hours of power to appliances in a room. One of the major advantages of the new BioLite Backup system is that it can be easily installed. Press information suggests that the system can be up and running in under 30 minutes.

This new power station can deliver 1800W of A/C current at 120V @ 60 Hz. This is enough to power most fridges for two days, plus extra energy than can help cook meals and keep lights on when the power grid fails. The unit charges from 1800W at 15A via AC or 1500W @ 20A DC which can be supplied by solar panels. Components are the same size (29" x 13" x 2.8"). The Core weighs 18kg, while each extension is 16kg. This are hefty items simply to accommodate such large battery.

The BioLite Backup makes redundant power easily accessible by using pass-through charging and an external USB Power Hub to connect multiple devices. BioLite set the official price of the Backup Core to $2000 USD. For the Core or an extra Extend, the price is set at $3000 USD. During the KickStarter campaign special pricing lets early buyers save up to 35%. Due to its weight and composition, initial campaign sales are only shipped to US addresses.
