Nikon D5 XQD Summary
Nikon D5 XQD Assessment
The Nikon D5 is about pushing limits. This large professional DSLR has a full-frame 20 megapixels CMOS sensor which reaches a class-leading ISO 3,276,8,00 and can shoot continuously at 12 FPS for over 15 seconds and is even capable of 14 FPS with the mirror locked up.
The new sensor and processor deliver high-quality images with low noise and good dynamic-range. The D5 stands out with dynamic-range and color which handle high sensitivity exceptionally well. JPEG images from this DSLR are excellent, while RAW files need a little more work than usual.
Indoor action photographers would be hard-pressed to find a better camera for their needs. The new 153-point autofocus system in the D5 is extremely fast and locks focus faster than we can measure, even in low-light. Its -4 EV sensitivity is best-in-class while maintaining excellent accuracy.
Bulk and price are likely the biggest obstacles to the D5. At 1.4kg plus lens, the D5 certainly feels heavy. For the professional low-light action photographer, particularly indoor sports, the D5 can truly deliver.
