Fujifilm Finepix SL280 Samples

Below are sample crops from an indoor photograph taken at each of the Fuji Finepix SL280's ISO. A crop from the Fujifilm Finepix S100FS
Fujifilm Finepix S100FS at the same ISO setting is shown next to each one of the Fuji SL280. Images below are all unmodified 100% crops from their respective cameras taken at the highest quality setting. ISO was set on camera, everything else was left on automatic.

These crops help determine which ISO settings can be acceptably used. As noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction that introduces softness. The result is that, while you can partly reduce noise at the expense of details, the maximum acceptable print size gets smaller as ISO is increased. When a print becomes unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.

Fuji clearly decided never to show image noise on the SL280 and applies strong noise reduction, producing softer images even at the base ISO of 64. Softness increases at each additional ISO with a big increase at 800 when maximum print sizes shrink by about half. In contrast, the much older Fujifilm Finepix S100FS Fujifilm Finepix S100FS keeps image details for about 2 stops more because of mild noise-reduction, making it usable for mid-size prints up to ISO 1600.
