Canon EOS Rebel T5i Summary

The Canon EOS Rebel T5i is an entry-level DSLR following the classing Rebel line with an 18 MP sensor featuring built-in Phase-Detect AF. This is a light yet moderate-sized camera which is comfortable to hold and a relatively good number of direct controls, although a single control-dial.

This DSLR is slightly faster than its smaller sibling, reaching 5 FPS continuous drive. It captures full 1080p HD video too where the Phase-Detect AF is meant to help. It does not make as much of a difference as expected, although video performance is generally good on the T5i.

Image quality is quite reasonable with very low image-noise, realistic colors and white-balance, plus a decent multi-segment metering system. Dynamic-range is where this DSLR falls behind its peers, probably due to its small pixels.

Overall, the Canon Rebel T5i delivers just what is expected from a DSLR. Ergonomics are good and translate will to other members of the Rebel family, providing a good option as first Canon DSLR for someone upgrading from a compact camera.
